The 5th Annual Historical and Theoretical Conference

The Vaganova Ballet Academy announces the 5th Annual Historical and Theoretical Conference “Hommage à Petipa” on the 11th of March, 2019.

The Conference is organized by the Department of Ballet Academic Studies and traditionally takes place on the date of Birthday of an outstanding “Father of the Russian Ballet” Marius Ivanovitch Petipa. The 5th conference marks the 201st anniversary of Marius Petipa.

The Conference will take place at the Vaganova Ballet Academy (2 Rossi street, St.Petersburg, Russia).

The Conference welcomes the participation of educators, researchers, theoreticians and practical specialists in the Art of Choreography, experts in related scientific and creative areas, postgraduate students and students.

Marius Petipa artistic endeavour did not have boundaries, that is why the subject of the conference is not confined to the Master’s heritage only. Submitted papers can embrace a wide range of topics on history and theory of the Art of Choreography – from early dancing to vanguard contemporary trends. Topics related to the study of Petipa biography, his artistic heritage and its presence on stage of the contemporary theatre, however, are most welcome.

Duration of a paper (communication) presentation is 15 minutes. Presented papers will be recommended for publication in the Bulletin of the Vaganova Ballet Academy (provided a paper meets requirements and format of the Bulletin).

The Conference suggests personal participation.

Working language of the conference is Russian. International participants could be provided with the conference translation of the paper (on demand and in case there is a possibility to do it).

Applications are accepted until February 18, 2019. Final decision to include applications in the program of the conference will be considered by the Ballet Studies Department until February 28, 2019.
